SUMMARY: 

This one-day seminar will offer hands-on exercises along with video review and search analysis. We will film the morning searches, watch and discuss the videos and then conduct afternoon exercises focused on the themes identified in the review. This is an interactive workshop meant to engage participants and to facilitate discussion on specific search competencies as well as fine tuning observational skills. Video review and/or search debriefs will be utilized to provide a deep dive into your searches and help enhance the handler’s and participants’ understanding.

Working Spot (maximum of 10): $250 Please read working spot requirements below.

Auditors: $100.00 per person. Auditors from all levels are welcome.  Auditors may not bring a dog to this event. 

Working Spot Requirements:  The 10 working spots are targeted for teams training and/or trialing at advanced levels (NW3 or above). 

  • A title is not required, but dogs should be resilient to challenging environments, have strong odor obedience, and be comfortable being watched by a large group of people.
  • Dogs who have less experience or understanding of odor or who can become easily distracted by the environment would not be well suited for a working spot for this seminar.
  • Additionally, dogs who are reactive/aggressive with people would not be well suited for this seminar.
  • Dogs must be healthy on event day and should be current on all vaccinations required by law.
  • Dogs will need to be comfortable and quiet in a crate when not working. 

DISCOUNTS: No discounts are available for working spots. 

Marin Humane Discounts: Marin Humane Employees, Active Marin Humane Volunteers, and Marin Humane Nose Work Students (currently enrolled in Intro to NW, Intro to Odor, Working with Odor, Extreme, and/or Elements) are eligible to receive a 50% discount off the audit spot registration fee.

SCHEDULE:

Check-In: 8:30am – 9am

Morning Session: 9am to 12:30pm 

Lunch (12:30-1:30pm) is on your own. If possible, plan to bring a lunch. 

Afternoon Session: 1:30pm – 5pm

VIDEO/AUDIO TAPING:  Videoing your own dog working is at the discretion of the instructor, and may not be posted on a public website or social media.  You may not video or audio tape any other working teams, Q/A Sessions, or Lectures/Presentations.  Presenter will be videotaping the working sessions. 

CANCELLATION POLICY: All cancellations must be emailed to Ohbehave@marinhumane.org. Cancellations received by 5pm pacific time on November 15, 2022 will receive a refund minus a 10% processing fee. Cancellations after 5pm November 15, 2022 will not be refunded unless we are able to fill your spot.  No refunds will be issued for cancellations during the last 48 hours before the event or for no-shows. This cancellation and refund policy applies to participants that must withdraw for any reason including but not limited to injury, illness, emergency, and personal or work-related reasons.

Kristina Leipzig owns Doglandia Training LLC, training people and their pets since 2002. She trains and competes in various dog sports as well as service dog training, and applies her science research education to her approach to training. She started in Nose Work in 2009 and hasn’t looked back since. Kristina is a certifying official and judge for NACSW™ and Instructor with over 60 students. She also offers video services for trials throughout the nation (Over 500 days videoed since 2015).  Kristina has handled 7 dogs in Nose work competitions all the way up to Champion and was a competitor in the last Invitationals. She has trained dogs in working sports, tracking, agility, rally, and fly ball.  She also searches for truffles in the PNW forests with her dogs.
