Dog Classes and Workshops

Marin Humane’s Behavior &   Training team offers dogs training classes from beginning skills to advanced behaviors that will help you and your dog develop a great relationship. Our instructors use positive reinforcement to teach your dog a variety of skills including how to walk on a leash without pulling (ugh!), to sit or lie down quietly (ahhhh), to come when called and to wait at doors (yay!). In addition, we offer dog sport classes including agility (yippee!), scenting (hmmm), flyball and rally obedience (woohoo!).

NOTE:

  • Please review different Tabs below for various offerings as you progress in your training.
  • Is your class sold out? New classes, IF and WHEN available, will be posted on Tuesdays between 10:00am and 12:00pm so please check back with us!
  • Do you want to switch classes before the 48-hour cut off? If there is a class with openings, you can switch without penalty. We have no ability to hold credits, so you need a place to switch to!  Please reach out to ohbehave@marinhumane.org or 415-506-6280 to avoid the 10% cancellation fee.
  • If you require financial assistance for classes, you may qualify for our Pet Safety Net program.  https://www.marinhumane.org/get-help/safetynet/

220-FD Crate Training Workshop

This 1 ½ hour workshops teaches you how to crate train your puppy or adult dog. Crates help your dog establish good habits and prevent the formation of destructive habits. They are an excellent house training tool and can be used in many behavior modification programs. Crate training is a “must” for both perfect and problem dogs. Even our advanced obedience, agility, scenting, and several other classes require that dogs be crated for short periods of time. Come learn all about crates with us! This workshop is limited to 10 dog/handler teams and 10 auditors. Pre-registration and payment of the fee - $50.00 to participate with your dog or $25.00 to audit without a dog - are required to reserve a spot in this workshop.

If you have questions or would like to audit, please call us at 415.506.6280.

301-RD Bull Breed Basics

Are you a bully breed lover who would like to train with fellow bully enthusiasts and learn more about these unique dogs? This class is meant to give owners of Bully Breeds and Bully Breed mixes a head start on some basic attention and handler focus to get handler and dog ready for Family Dog 1.  This class is not a substitute for Family Dog 1, nor does every Bully Breed need this class. In this 3 week series, you will learn about some of the unique behaviors these breeds typically exhibit that can be interpreted as aggressive or rude.  Behaviors such as staring, rough play styles, and not allowing for customary personal space can all be misread and cause problems in the doggy world.  Taking this course will give you a little more support, give you skills and time to practice specific tools, and ensure you are comfortable when you begin Family Dog 1. Relevant breeds and breed mixes are: Boxers, Bulldogs, Pit Bulls, Staffordshire terriers, Rottweilers and Mastiffs. This 3 week series is $75 and is for dogs 4 months or older.  A 1-hour virtual orientation will be emailed and you will need to complete this and start some homework prior to the first class!  Overly reactive dogs are not suited for this class.  Please see Reactive Dog Consulting options here.
