Their distress may be expressed as persistent vocalization, house-soiling, destruction, or more subtle behaviors like excessive drooling, panting or pacing. However it's expressed, your dog's panic response to alone time is stressful for dog and handler, often limiting lives radically.

Marin Humane's Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer, Marisa Walker, is here to help you and your dog! She uses a gentle and panic-free process of systematic desensitization. No crates, no food puzzles, no punishment. All training is done in your home, both virtually with our trainer and on your own with her clear instruction. Our shared goal is that your dog learns that alone time is safe.

How Separation Anxiety Training Works

• We start with a free 15-minute phone call to learn about you and your dog, and to answer questions about the training protocol.
• If your trainer determines separation anxiety training could benefit your dog, we invite you to register for our Separation Anxiety Get Started Package.
• The package starts with a virtual initial assessment, done via Zoom.
• We create five training plans per week for you and your dog, for four weeks.
• Each week we repeat our virtual assessment to see your dog's progress.
• Most cases of separation anxiety are not solved in four weeks. You can renew in packages of four weeks each as many times as you need.

Your Commitment

• During training you manage your absences so your dog is never left alone.
• Follow training plans on your own and write notes for your trainer four days a week.
• Schedule a live Zoom session with your trainer once a week.
